Clear Aligner

Have you ever wanted a fabulous smile with lovely straight teeth, but didn’t want to get traditional metal braces? Traditional metal braces are painful – the metal wires and brackets can cut your gums and the inside of your mouth. When the wires are tightened, it can be painful! Let’s face it–metal braces are unattractive, and they seem to take a long time to give you a straight, beautiful smile.

Instead of using metal brackets and wires to straighten and realign teeth, Dentist On Wheels recommends using Clear Aligner. Clear Aligner (or Invisible Braces) is an advanced technique in which clear aligner trays are used to move the teeth slowly yet effectively to a desired position. It is a different medium in orthodontics, which allows patients to experience a straighter smile without the embarrassment, pain, and inconvenience of traditional metal braces.

In general, Clear Aligner/ Invisalign can be used to treat the same orthodontic issues that are normally treated with braces. Our orthodontist may recommend it to correct:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Gapped and spaced teeth
  • Certain problems with the bite, such as an overbite, open bite, underbite, or cross bite

Why Clear Aligner/ Invisalign?

Many patients prefer to avoid the look and feel of traditional braces, with their wires and brackets that can cause discomfort and self-consciousness.

Not only are Invisalign aligners removable, they are made of strong, clear plastic that can barely be seen in the smile.

These custom-fit aligners are comfortable, easy to clean, and allow the patient to fully brush and floss teeth without wires and brackets in the way.

They can be taken off for special engagements such as dates, graduations, weddings, and any other special occasion. Clear Aligner treatments also require fewer visits to your dentist, often six to eight weeks between appointments.

The advantages of Clear Aligner (or Invisible Braces) over traditional metal braces are quite amazing.

While you are getting beautiful, straight teeth, you can smile, laugh, and have your photo taken with confidence. Nobody knows you are wearing braces but you!

How Does It Work?

Using the latest advances in 3-D computer technology, we create a series of custom made removable mouth trays (aligners). These aligners apply a controlled amount of force to your teeth, causing them to move. Each aligner is slightly different, moving your teeth gradually into the desired position.

What are Clear Aligners/ Invisalign made of?

Clear aligners are made of a comfortable, smooth, high-performance bpa free dental grade orthodontic material. It won’t irritate your gums and cheeks like traditional metal braces often do.

How long will the treatment take?

Treatment time with invisible teeth aligners is based on how much the teeth need to be moved or rotated and is case specific. The more your bite is off or more crooked are your teeth, the longer it will take. Treatment usually takes between 12-24 months. If you’re an adult who has undergone braces as a child but your teeth have shifted slightly over the years, you may need to wear aligners for a shorter period of time.

How much does the treatment cost?

This needs to be discussed with your dental practitioner as every patient situation is different, depending on the treatment period.

How do I clean my aligners?

Clear aligners/ Invisalign can be washed with running water and a small amount of toothpaste.

Clear Aligners Vs Traditional Braces

Which one is BETTER?

There isn’t much difference in both the treatments when it comes to comparing the orthodontic principles applied to correct misaligned teeth. Clear aligners, like traditional braces, apply pressure on the targeted areas of your teeth. However, several other significant factors make clear aligners different from traditional braces.

  • Clear aligners use removable trays that allow you easy flossing and brushing. Whereas, traditional braces are more like barriers to normal oral hygiene because you cannot remove them.
  • You can conveniently continue eating your meals with clear aligners, as you have an option to discreetly remove them. On the contrary, traditional braces hinder your eating ability
  • With clear aligners, you can confidently socialise, attend meetings and hang out with friends without having to worry about your looks. On the other hand, traditional braces might make you feel diffident.
  • Clear aligners are an irritation-free orthodontic treatment and cause minimal adjustment discomfort.
  • Speaking with clear aligners is normal (with a very brief adjustment period in very few cases).
  • Clear aligners can treat most common malocclusions but cannot treat every case. Some cases are too complex and may require fixed braces or a combination of fixed appliances plus clear aligners.
